ABOUT
I grew up in rural Dorset surrounded by bubbling vats of natural indigo and woad. At an early age I started experimenting with textiles and natural plant dyes, which lead me on to the University of Brighton in 1996. Here I spent four years studying for a BA in Fashion and Textiles, and when I graduated in 2000 I was awarded the Design and Innovation prize for my final collection. This work became the first naturally dyed collection ever selected for the Gala Catwalk at Graduate Fashion Week.
Since 2003 I have specialised in hand-tailored womenswear, making small collections or one-off pieces from the colour palette of natural dyes. Selling at shows like Origin in London and The Contemporary Craft Fair in Devon, I have also made bespoke garments for clients and produced commissioned work for the Crafts Council and Whitworth Gallery. In 2005 New Consumer magazine listed me amongst the UK's leading ethical designers. In 2006, The Telegraph featured my work in an article about 'growing demi-couture labels synonymous with luxury fabrics and a social conscience.' Recently, The Independent described my work as 'gorgeous and tailored, embellished with buttons, frills, ribbons and geometric slashes of colour: as if a little girl had run amok in Savile Row'.
Having lived and worked in India, Brighton and London over the last few years, I have finally settled in West Dorset. Natural dyes like indigo, lac, weld, woad, majistra, madder, pomegranate and cochineal continue to give my womenswear a lasting tone and depth that synthetic dyes simply can't match. Every piece I make is unique, embellished with print, appliqué or painted by hand. My fabrics are sourced from organic farmers and craft cooperatives in Europe, Bangladesh, China and India. All the garments are hand-tailored in Dorset.
My current collection is on the Jackets & Coats page. Prices range from £195 - £695, and all garments are are available to order. If you wish to see the work in person, please contact me in West Dorset or visit one of the shows on the Events page.
